It’s a well crafted hard bop which, at times, shows traits of [Dave] Douglas’ playing. The biggest impact of all is the sound, which is clear and clean cut. His style is difficult to place, compared, for instance, with the distinctive style of the young Italian trumpeters.
PAOLO FRESU
With “Don’t Touch the Blue”, trumpeter/composer Daniel Cano reminds us that with each passing day there are more young jazz musicians that are very well prepared as performers and at the same time very secure in their own vision of improvised music. From the more classic ambiences where he demonstrates a solid foundation in the tradition (Sin Trom, Tú siempre tienes que ser el mismo?), to more contemporary forms (Changes, Plutón), Daniel clearly shows the way as a soloist and, for the first time, leader of an excellent group.
